THE TRAUMA-INFORMED SPIRITUAL EXERCISES: GROWING YOUR SPIRITUAL AND PASTORAL CAREGIVING SKILLS FOR LIFE’S WOUNDED
This is a workshop/retreat for spiritual directors and pastoral counselors, offered with my dear friend Rob McChesney, SJ and based on his new book The Soul Also Keeps the Score, a trauma-informed companion to the Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius. Loyola Jesuit Center.

LENT RETREAT: Live the Lent You Get
So often, our Ash Wednesday resolutions crumble as life presents unexpected challenges over the following six weeks–which is why the Lent we get is often harder than the Lent we choose. On this retreat, we consider a new approach:  allowing life to become its own Lenten discipline.

ADVENT RETREAT: CHOOSING THE BETTER PART
The theme is God’s invitation to radical hospitality: creating space for the coming Christ in our hearts and our lives.  Using St. Martha (the original overworked host) and her sister Mary as inspiration, these retreats help carve out a bit of stillness in the midst of the frenzy, helping people empty their hands, “choose the better part,” and respond to the spiritual invitation of the season.

THE STORIES THAT FORM US
Human beings are formed by stories from our earliest days.  In this retreat, we explore the stories that have influenced us, the ones we tell ourselves, and those we speak into the universe–all through the lens Saint Ignatius of Loyola, who himself was inspired by stories, and whose story has motivated his followers for almost 500 years.

ABIDE IN ME AS I ABIDE IN YOU: FINDING GOD IN THE TAPESTRY OF OUR LIVES

St. James Parish, Basking Ridge NJ,  Women’s Retreat, September 2022
In this retreat, we consider four movements common to every life: awakening to the world around us, discovering and rediscovering our path, practicing love in its many forms, and grieving the loss of much that we hold dear. Reflecting on the twists and turns of our individual journeys, we will notice the presence of God, abiding with us through it all, and challenging us to abide as well.

This retreat is also available as a half-day, full-day, or keynote address (offered for Associates in Mercy annual meeting, April 2023).

TAKE NOTHING FOR THE JOURNEY? PACKING FOR THE UNKNOWN
Good for the start of a school year, calendar year, or any other new undertaking, this retreat invites participants to ask what we should bring with us into a new year, and what we should leave behind. Praying with stories from the Bible, literature, and life, we ponder the attitudes, relationships, dreams, commitments, and even possessions we want to carry with us in order to travel lightly, responsive to God’s call.

FINDING GOD IN ORDINARY TIME
While we’d love to encounter God on the mountaintop, most of the time we must listen for the “still, small voice.” This retreat–available in weekend, day-long, or two-hour format, explores the various terrains where we can experience the presence of God.

JOSEPH: CARPENTER, DREAMER, FOSTER-FATHER, SAINT
Although St. Joseph does not speak a word in the Gospels, he is a powerful figure in the Catholic religious imagination.  Responding to Pope Francis’ proclamation of a Year of St. Joseph, in this retreat we will use creative stories and artistic renderings to meditate on the life of Joseph. Together, we will consider contemporary parallels to the challenges he faced and the virtues he demonstrated, drawing closer to Joseph as our inspiration and guide in these difficult days.
